Coquet's expertise

A French heritage

Founded in 1824, 25 kilometers from Limoges, JL Coquet has always been a renowned House for the purity and delicacy of its porcelain but also for the excellence of its traditional know-how.

The translucent whiteness of the material, the brilliance of the gold, the contrast of the colors and the finesse of the engravings are still, at the dawn of the brand's two hundred years, the sign of distinction of its collections.

Awarded the French Living Heritage Company and IGP label, this exceptional House has become the symbol of a French Art of Living and a "Made in France" know-how, whose elegance can be found on the finest starred tables.

Creating a single piece can require nearly twenty steps, during which cutting-edge techniques and expertise are inextricably linked. Thanks to a unique engraving technique, the inlays of gold, platinum, or other precious metals highlight the designs of our products while ensuring their irreversibility. This technique gives the colors and patterns a unique depth, enhancing each of our pieces.

Simultaneously, thanks to a unique, hand-applied satin-finishing technique, a mineral glaze is applied to certain areas of the piece to protect the matte finish of the bisque, while the glaze is applied to the remaining areas. This combination of matte and glossy effects offers unique aesthetic contrasts while preserving the durability of our products, which are not prone to abrasiveness or marking.

1
Hand-painted decoration

Hand painting is done with a brush. The worker becomes an artist. The precision of the gesture, the skillful mixing of colors are the result of many years of learning and practice.

2
Chromolithographic decoration

Chromolithography is a process in which a sheet of paper is applied by hand to white porcelain using a decal-like technique. The sheet is soaked in water to detach the design from its paper backing and then applied to the piece. The leaf decoration is produced using various printing processes. The factory has its own screen-printing workshop for printing its designs.

3
Spraying the decorations

The third technique for applying JL Coquet decorations is spraying. Using a spray gun with precisely measured paint, the artisans spray the pieces arranged on a lathe. To ensure uniformity, each piece is weighed, allowing for precise measurement of the amount of decoration applied to each one. Spraying allows for solid, delicate, or intense colors, depending on the quantity of paint used.

The inlay

Inlay is a decoration of great delicacy. Using chromolithography and sandblasting techniques, our artisans create refined and elegant decorations on porcelain.

5
Sandblasting

For pieces containing gold, the final step is sandblasting. When fired, gold has a matte appearance. Sandblasting means rubbing it with a cloth and sand, which then brings out its full luster.

6
Quality control

Before being sent to its final destination, each item is carefully checked after each operation, in order to offer a very high quality product.
